Connecting with what’s at heart

Lately, I've been having a hard time locating myself in the present. I'm in-between.
I'm noticing that when I'm most anxious or distractible, it's because I'm elsewhere — lost in my thoughts, dwelling on the past or in the future. The present then becomes heavy with urgency and I become unsure of myself.
Maybe the here-nor-there feeling is appropriate for this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere: descending into the dark and restful energy of winter, looking at what's come to pass while anticipating what's ahead. Something deep within me wants to hibernate and yet, another part of me feels the pressure of preparing for a “new” (“better?”) year.
Don't get me wrong, there is value to revisiting the past and planning for the future. This process can give shape and structure to our desires. The mind (the imagination) is an excellent time traveller and shapeshifter. But notice: where does that leave the body, right now? Where does that leave the heart and all that it's holding in the present?
I want to offer the idea of tuning back into the heart — however this has meaning for you — to find clarity and ease in the present.
For the holiday season, I'm offering a free, heart-centered trance recording. There is no right or wrong way to experience it — consider it a deeply relaxing, creative exercise in which you are welcome to be curious and imaginative and generous with yourself. You can listen to this as often as you need to. Feel free to journal about or draw what comes up for you, or even share your experience with me.
With gratitude,
Kristen
